Anxiety is one of the most common symptoms people contact me for help with. Often I am the only person they have told about their anxiety. Sometimes people feel silly, frustrated, embarrassed or afraid of being judged. Usually they quite simply don’t understand why they feel so out of control. This in turn leads to more panic and a feeling of frustration and helplessness.

There are so many types of anxiety such as social anxiety; travel anxiety – worrying about driving, flying or leaving home; sick anxiety – also known as emetophobia; food anxiety – issues such as bulimia, commitment anxiety, the list goes on.

Anxiety is a normal survival reaction, a natural fight or flight response to danger. Although the danger may not be real (ie fear of driving, flying, enclosed spaces, fear of heights, socialising or talking, fear of tests/exams) your mind reacts as if the event is scary and you may then experience physical symptoms and panic attacks.
